What is the Pregnancy Research Focus Groups Study?

We want to make research more accessible and relevant for pregnant folks and their families. To accomplish this goal, we are conducted a series of focus groups with local families. Specifically, our team is inviting pregnant folks who live in Hawaiʻi (on any island) and their partners to participate in a one-time focus group. During the focus group, we will ask what makes research feel safe and welcoming to you, and on the other side of things, intimidating or out of reach.

Where will the focus group take place?

Focus groups take place in-person or virtually over Zoom. In-person focus groups are hosted in our lab at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. For in-person focus groups, we assist with transportation costs and our team can provide free childcare for your other children during the discussion.

What will I be asked to do?

Each focus group will consist of 4 to 7 pregnant individuals, the Director of the REEF Lab Dr. Cassandra Hendrix, and lab manager Zoë Barron. Some focus groups may also include the spouse/romantic partner/co-parent of each pregnant individual. We will begin with a brief survey and discussion will follow afterwards.
Will I be compensated?

Yes! Each participant will receive a $40 VISA e-gift card. By sharing your opinions and experiences, you will also be helping us make scientific studies better for pregnant folks and their families here in Hawaiʻi.

How do I know if I'm eligible?

To see if you're eligible, complete a brief survey (linked below) and have a phone conversation with one of our team members. The team member will tell you more about the study, determine your eligibility, and answer any questions you have.
